"Top 10 Interview Questions"
The Guide by Mariya Kaloyeva
Who I Am and Why You Should Trust Me
Hi everyone, my name is Mariya Kaloyeva
I used to work at one of the top state universities and several private language schools
Starting in 2015, I began my journey into the world of international organizations
I ended up founding a language school myself, that was successfully operating
I have had 8+ years of cumulative work experience at OSCE and UN, initially as an interpreter
Eventually, I moved deeper into humanitarian coordination and protection, which required combining several roles, including HR
I am a certified English master with more than 15 years of teaching plus other unique experiences
While applying multiple times for different positions within international organizations, I began to understand that the international recruitment process is quite different from the one I was used to as a local.
Thus, I observed in myself a lack of self-presentation skills, little knowledge of what the employer was looking for in a candidate, and little understanding of how to show the employer I possessed all the required skills even though I had them all and more.
So, I started studying current hiring practices in the international world. Later, the knowledge I acquired helped me both in my HR functions at the UN and as a candidate in multiple interviews.
What the guide is about
Today I am happy to share my findings with you, not only in my capacity as a human resource specialist but also as an applicant. I hope this will help you understand what employers are looking for and how to best prepare.
